Common Questions
Life Coaching is a forward-focused partnership designed to help you gain clarity, set meaningful goals, and take consistent action. Coaching focuses on where you are now, where you want to be, and how to bridge that gap.
I am a professionally trained coach, currently working toward my ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential, and I coach in alignment with ICF standards and ethics. There are about 10000 ICF certified ACC coaches in the United States. I have 28 years of experience in the tech industry with 20+ years as a manager and org leader (Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Atlassian). I bring my life experience as a mentor and leader to life coaching. I have had the good fortune of having several mentors who have shaped my life. I have my own life coach who has created radical and deep transformation in me. View my experience and credentials here.
Coaching is not therapy. Therapy often focuses on healing past trauma or mental health conditions. Coaching focuses on the present and future—clarifying goals, overcoming obstacles, and building momentum. If you are dealing with a mental health condition, therapy may be more appropriate. Coaching can complement therapy but does not replace it.
Coaching is not mentoring. Coaching empowers you to find your own solutions, while mentoring provides advice from the mentor’s experience. I am primarily focused on coaching.
Coaching
Coaching is a thought-provoking, future-focused process that helps you maximize your personal and professional potential.
Coaches act as thinking partners—asking deep questions, supporting clarity, and holding you accountable. It’s about reflection, insight, and taking aligned action.
Therapy
Therapy is more healing-oriented. It explores the past, works through unresolved trauma, and supports emotional processing. It’s typically longer-term and more intensive.
Mentoring
Mentoring is experience-based and more directive. A mentor shares expertise to guide someone with less experience—often focused on performance, career growth, or skill-building.
Each approach has its place. Choosing the right one depends on your current needs.
While coaching is focused on helping you uncover your own insights and solutions, my extensive experience allows me to ask sharper, context-aware questions and offer relevant perspectives when helpful. This experience helps me understand the challenges you may face and guide our conversations so you can make decisions more confidently, without me giving direct advice or instructions. Occassionaly, I may directly offer my perspective from my experience and you are free to use what resonates. I will primarily be focused on coaching – empowering you to uncover your own solutions.

Accountability turns insight into action. Coaching supports you in choosing meaningful commitments and following through — building ownership, self-trust, and steady progress.
Honesty is essential for effective coaching. Open and truthful sharing helps focus on what truly matters and supports meaningful growth.
Success in coaching isn’t about reaching a pre-set score or hitting someone else’s benchmark — it’s about your progress and growth. You’ll know coaching is working when you:

– Take consistent action aligned with what matters to you.
– Notice mindset shifts and new ways of thinking about challenges.
– Feel more confident, focused, and in control of your personal or professional life.
Sessions are conducted online via video call and typically include:
– Clarifying what’s most important right now
– Exploring challenges and thought patterns
